I agree. Maybe show the parents that the tortoise couldn't have escaped on its own and had to be removed.

This is what scares me about putting mine outside this summer. There's a bunch of bratty kids next door, no exaggeration, and something like this is too hard for some to pass up.

This jerk just stole your pet tortoise right off your porch, only to neglect it and let it get deathly ill?! And how did the little brother figure out the tortoise actually belongs to you, anyway?

The little brother comes by a lot, and I sometimes hire him to do small jobs around the property, so when his mother brought her inside, having only then noticed Apollonia on the patio, he knew where she'd come from and immediately brought her home.

Am certain that he didn't take her, himself...he's a really nice kid.

So sorry to hear about this. I know I would be furious about this. In fact, I have worried about this myself sometimes. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely demand compensation. Not that it would bring your beloved pet back. But for me, it would help bring closure, and help care for the pets that still remain. Outrageous.

Plan to go by tomorrow and find out where Lover Boy lives, alright!

Called a friend on the Sherriff's Dept., but he feels that unless I can find a witness, not much can be done.

Oh I could think of a few things that could be done...

So sorry man. I feel horrible for you. I hope the young man gets what he deserves.

You may want to actually read the thread. She died. Unfortunately...

I "actually" did and excuse me for not seeing that part.

To the OP,
I'm sorry to hear she didn't make it :(

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound condescending. I was just in rage mode over the thread. This is a tortoise-owner's nightmare. It's all too tempting for a kid to see a tortoise and want to have it for himself.

That's just awful! I agree that the mother needs to actually see the dead tortoise so she can have a little talk with the girl. After all, the girl is the one who put the tortoise out there with no heat, etc. And maybe the mother can contact the boy's mother to let her know that her kid stole something. Law enforcement might not be able to do anything without more proof, but the moms and dads sure can.

So sorry all this happened! I really hope you talk with the parents. This is a great teaching moment.
I sorta like the baseball bat idea though.
