Why do we bother?

What do we bother cleaning and making everything nice for, just for them to destroy it all? Why do we give them multiple hides for them to protest and dig their own?

Because they are so much fun to watch as they systematically destroy our most carefully designed enclosures!

I have a young leopard that every day must run back and forth most of the day in her water dish, filling it with dirt. Every morning I have to dig out the dirt and clean the bowl. Will never understand their reasons lol

Poe does the exact same thing, no matter where I move the dish he’ll always manage to trek through it

I find it pretty impressive how much earth they can move, I still wonder sometimes if it is just a by product of him running around the enclosure or if he is doing something specifically to shovel the dirt around when Im not looking. ha.

I have never seen it done. So yes I wonder that same thing. I picture her throwing the dirt with her back feet. Lol
Funny thing it last for a while and then she won't do it for months and then she will do it again. I had another one that would do it too. Don't remember who.

Actually we decorate and landscape the holding units for our own personal likes or for it to look good for you the owner
The critters are just doing what they have done for millenniums what they want after all I’ve never seen a tortoise or any other critters care about the decor

This is why we do not decorate. We provide the best living space and conditions for our torts.

I love, love waking, turning on the camera and checking what is going on in the enclosure.
There is no better feeling that seeing the water dish full of substrate, hiding spot moved to where it’s comfortable or simply looking at the tortoise basking/sleeping anywhere in their enclosure.
