Hello!

I'm Immie, 21 from the UK! After years of wanting and researching tortoises I purchased Percy, a five year old Hermanns male around 3 weeks ago.

He is eating fine and spends most of his time exploring the garden and gets bought in at night.

Percy and my dog get on surprisingly well, my dog scares any birds away from the garden when Percy is out there and barks whenever he gets himself in a pickle or stuck anywhere!

A few questions ; when do I start to hibernate him? Previous owner says he was over hibernated last year, what does this mean for me? Any advice on hibernation would be fab!

Any other advice or information would be greatly appreciated!

Love, Immie and Percy ♡

Welcome to the forum. Cute tortoise. It is recommended not to hibernate your tortoise the first year you have them. And it is a debatable topic if you need to hibernate them at all. I am not familiar with Herman tortoises enough to give you any advice about them specifically. So I would say wait a year and then research it.
Please keep your dog and tortoise separated. I know it looks like they're getting along, but dogs will be dogs. Even the most well-trained dog could hurt your tortoise. Never ever leave them together unsupervised.

Hello again.
What are you using for substrate?
It looks a bit dry to my rubbish eyes, but I may be wrong.
