Wow, that's just terrible, I worry about someone trying to hurt my torts once they are finally big enough to live outside, I don't know what I would do if I found someone had tortured and killed one of my babies. You have to wonder what the heck is going through these sick individuals minds sometimes.
Oh my god! I don't understand why... why...
i couldn't have watched it. reading it made me feel sick. they need locking up before they harm any thing els. i really hope they get some serious punishments for what they did to the little poor thing.

That is awful. Who would do such a thing. That's why tortoises r going down hill because of careless people who don't care. I couldn't watch the video just reading it made me sick. People who do that should have to suffer through the same thing.
I could barely stand to read about it, and I try real hard not to put human feelings on that poor tortoise.
My sympathies are with the two girls. They definitely need help. I doubt a fine will make an impression on either of them, the parents would pay the fine. They need professional help.
If these are two normal, american-type families, I feel very sorry for the parents of the two girls. How devastated they must be.

I've seen this making it's rounds on facebook i wonder if theses kids parents know that most serial killers start out hurting animals.........
If they mean to inflict harm then maybe, but those kids that don't understand a thing, I believe they will grow up... Personally they need therapy, animals are beautiful <3
i'm pretty sure they understand that they are causing a living thing harm they light the poor thing on fire to and are heard in the video laughing about it and making comments like "burn baby burn" they understood pretty well if you ask me

Therapy? No, these are not depressed, anxious, unhappy people that need therapy. This is cruel and sadistic behavior. There is no "help" for that. They WILL do this again. To another animal, to humans. Whatever. Help? I'm sorry, they are beyond that. There is depression, anxiety, bi polar, and alcoholism in my family. It's genetic. But not one of us that struggles could ever hurt another, let alone be amused by it and laugh about it. This is sadistic and there is no help for that.

These kinds of people are no good and should be disposed of and not in a humane way. They will grow up to do no good for this world. Sick pieces of garbage.

I got sick to my stomach just reading this whole thread. At first, I tried to watch the video. It wouldn't load so I has to read it and I am absolutely disgusted. I can't believe anyone would do this. I cringe a little bit when I feed my box turtles live food or when I ACCIDENTLY step on a snail. I cant even begin to imagine enjoying that. And even if I was sick and demented enough to enjoy it, I definitely wouldn't share it so that other people knew I was sick and demented. In my opinion these girls need to be punished to the full extent of the law, which unfortunately isn't much for animals, probably just a fine. I hope these girls, I don't even know but there needs to be some major discipline.

They are extremely sick and demented. It will be a fine, but a rather large fine since it involves an endangered species. Since it has gotten a great deal of media attention, I think (hope) they make an example of these two.
OK, perhaps I am a tad demented also, but have the punishment fit the crime. I am talking TORTOISE justice here. Now hear me out folks. We have several LARGE Sulcatas on the board, not mentioning any of them by name to protect their identities. Let's dress these two fine young ladies as one of the tortoise ramming items and set them in their area. We can film them being knocked around the yard for a while. Nothing more inspirational than being charged by a larged shelled individual, might knock some sense into the two.
Even the cruelest people can take therapy, it might work (logic can usually be "pumped" into a listener), sometimes they may stay the same... If we as a community don't try giving them therapy, we are just as guilty! Therapy might change them, if they don't it's there loss, but we can't sit around without taking action... Just as how the seasons change, people do to. I personally can't stand the thought they might have been able to change but I didn't help

This is similar to the heinous acts committed by teens before involving the abuse and torture of kittens. The link to the video is included in the article, though I would not advise it (I haven't watched it for fear of rage).
