Substrate to be used in pen.

Hi friends,kindly advice me what substrate should I use in the pen for my star tort.Right now the are in coarse sand ie aquarium sand.do I need to change it.if then with what?They enjoy digging and sleeping in sand with their neck out.Kindly advice

I like to use small grade orchid bark. Some really swear by coco coir.

Orchid bark here.
There are too many stories of issues with sand.

Unfortunately, sand is easily ingested by tortoises as it sticks to their food and then gets eaten. The sand does not pass easily through the gut at becomes impacted.

Orchid bark is a favourite on here as it is much safer

I've use orchid bark and coco coir. Both do the job and I've not experienced issued.
