Stars flashing

Hi I,ve got 4 year old stars both started flashing a month ago do they need a mate this early

Hi Madhura:

No, they don't "need" a mate. Tortoises can get along just fine without another tortoise of the opposite sex. When they first come of age, they do a lot of flashing. Its just something new to them, but they soon stop and will just go about their business.

Hi Daryl:

When a young male tortoise almost reaches sexual maturity and he discovers his "man parts," he puts it out and plays with it a bit. They get over it after a few tries and usually don't do it much anymore.

Reminds me teenage boys. at least the tortoise gets over his.
