Pancake substrate

Would it be better to use coco fiber or cypress mulch as a substrate? Should they have sand added to the coco or will that cause impaction?

Of the two, cypress mulch would likely be better. We have kept Pancakes successfully for years on aspen.

Thank you. Is the aspen like the snake bedding stuff? Is it softer than cypress?

Yep that's the stuff. Yes it is softer than cypress mulch.

+1 on the shredded aspen.

I have even had a female successfully nest in it.
