I recently went to a reptile show were I saw and fell in love with sulcata's so without doing any research I brought 1. Only to come home and start doing research and find out he had started pyramiding already. Never the less after reading up on them and reading Tom threads. I decided to buy 2 more from hatchlings and see how smooth could I raise them. So now I have 3 lil guys. My set up is a 150 gallon aquarium 6'L X18"W X 27"H. Top soil mix with coco hust for the bedding. A 150 watt basking light and a 150 watt CHE. I mist them 3 or 4 times a day, and soak them everyday for 15-20min. Temps stay between 86-102. Humidity stay at 90%. I will try to upload pictures every 2 weeks around the 1st and 15th. And I was thinking about buying 1 more but these 3 eat so much already I can't believe it.

Like I said before, before Oct 23 I had never heard of sulcata tortoise. So any advice would be greatly greatly appreciated.

1. stop buying them.
2. humidity
3. heat
4. healthy diet
look up 2 to 4 do a lot of research on them so that you can take care of them and not be another bad pet owner that you will read about on this forum .

If you want to keep buying than then do so. Don't listen to any rude comments. But they do get really big! Lol :) good luck!

If you can keep them, buy as many as you want. Read up on here for good advice, ignore the jerks.

In time, with proper husbandry and diet you will hardly notice the pyramiding on the big one.

The aquarium will be fine for a little while and really are not that bad of an enclosure especially a big one like that. After a while you will need to get them outside so they can really grow.

Suggestions....watch for bullying, this may be a problem. I would put plants, rocks, something to keep them busy..lots of greens, humidity and plenty of sunshine...i sure hope you have a couple acers of land for them...you will need it....

Thanks guys for all the good advice. I have 2 questions, I have notice since I added a CHE my tortoise stay in the hide much more. 0nly coming out to eat and going right back in or burrowing down into the top soil mix. Is that a sign it may be to hot in the enclosure? 2nd question I notice that they have started eating dirt. Is that common?

I've never noticed mine eating dirt. You really oughtta get a temp gun and a temp gauge.
