I agree.Looks more like a common snapping turtle to me.
This is my common snapping turtle Elvis, I made a collage for comparison. Me and my hubby argued whether it was a snapping turtle or not lol. I see tons of color differences between the two. I'm guessing it's a common musk turtle but I could be wrong. It is beautiful though I really love the coloring on that fellaView attachment 283983 Hello everyone. Does anyone know what type of turtle this is? I believe a musk, but anyone out there know? Thank you all and happy holidays to all!
Lots of color variation from black to brown with snappers. Absolutely no question this is a snapper. The pointy carapace scutes are an easy identifier and extremely distinctive. This is my common snapping turtle Elvis, I made a collage for comparison. This is a light colored common snapper that after being moved outside for a couple years kept some of the light skin colors but the shell turned dark brown. After about 5 years it looked like all the other common snapping turtles In the first pick that @Parais11 posted you can see the tip of it's long tail on the left side.I know there is one sure way to tell if it is a snapper his tail i was just looking at my snapper and his tail is prehistoric.
