Hello from Louisiana

I'm interested in owning a tortoise possibly but I was really interested in a box turtle. I have no clue what I'm doing. On Facebook folks recommend I look up my local laws but I don't know how. Nor do I know where to buy a turtle for under $100. Please assist me.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

The laws pertaining to turtles and tortoises are for turtles and tortoises native to the state you live in. So if Louisiana has native box turtles, you would have to know the laws of your state before you tried to buy one. But if you buy a turtle or tortoise that isn't native, it is quite ok. I think that three toe (Terrapene carolina triunguis) and gulf coast (Terrapene carolina major) are native to Louisiana, but that's all I know about it.
