This is my third post now about Killer. I promise I won't be one of those new moms who over shares everything but I have to say at least this much...

I am totally in love with my little Killer. I've had him a week and I am constantly staring at everything he does. And it's all so CUTE! I think it's an obsession. I might need help. I just caught myself watching him sleep and realized that I am acting like a new mom. When he's asleep at night I check on him and his temperature and his humidity at least once an hour. I flash a low light on him to make sure I didn't somehow kill him with neglect and that he's breathing. I call and text my mom when I'm not home to check on him. I worry that he's eating too much, is he hydrated? has he pooped today? Is his basking area too hot? Is his substrate too moist or soft. The list goes on and on and on. I have not felt this way since my daughter was born eleven years ago. I even catch myself tip toeing around his enclosure when he's sleeping.

I have a problem. I'll post pics in a few.

Also, many thanks for the welcome and the invaluable advice. Even those who only read my posts I thank. I hope my questions and comments help you as much as everyone else's comments and questions have helped me.

Welcome to owning a Russian!!! I am exactly to same with my little boy (tort) Sheldon! Especially the checking he's still alive bit when he's asleep lol
I was convinced when I first got him that he had an RI, I even took him to the emergency vet and cried because I was that convinced he was sick (I was assured he was fine and (touch wood) he's still going strong 10 weeks after that trip lol) I've calmed down a bit now on the panicking he's unwell but I still lose A LOT of my evenings just watching/talking to him lol
Can't wait to see pictures of Killer!

So basically this is all normal human to tortoise mommy behavior then... :)

I just snapped a few new pics (I have over 50 already).

ImageUploadedByTortForum1394058609.659085.jpg All dirty from digging around.

ImageUploadedByTortForum1394058662.760728.jpgpossibly the cutest thing he's done yet....

Oh no! I can picture myself calling the vet for everything. I have an appointment for his first visit this Saturday and I felt like I won the lotto when I saw the temperature is going to be 49 degrees. (I live in NYC and it's been a very cold and snowy winter).

HJ1983,
When our friends, relatives and spouses say, “Really? More tortoise pictures?" We have a safe harbor here. No real thing here called over sharing either. We discuss and post pictures of tortoise crap as if it's a regular thing…oh wait, it is. And then there's the tortoise porn…
Welcome home my friend. You are among friends now.

These awesome pictures just made my day complete! Sheldon is adorable and awesome! Looks to be a spunky little guy. Ms Ida is a looker. I don't know much about desert tortoises but she looks to be moving at light speed! She's very gorgeous! And Little Ricky had me in stitches just now.

By the way, I'm Haydee. And Killer's full name is Mr. K Cecil. (I work with children and felt that Killer wasn't appropriate so it's "Mr K" to them.)

And many thanks to all for making me smile and letting me know that I am normal! (Well somewhat normal but that's a topic for another day).

As for tortoise porn... Ha! Maybe I'll feel brave one day and look it up. Lol.

No need to look it up…ImageUploadedByTortForum1394062436.857655.jpg
And my wonderful wife wouldn't let me get this shirt. She said, “Where would you wear it?" To which I replied, “Where wouldn't I?"

OMG that's pretty funny. And those look like gigantic tortoises too.

As for the shirt... Classic. I love the play on words. I might have to look one up for me.

Hello HJ 1983, where did you get that log that killer is climbing on? By the way, I know how you feel I have spent many an hour just watching my Russian tortoise do all sorts of tortoise things.

I found it in petco in the small mammal section. It's really bendy and you can put it in any shape you want. I have it half buried so he can go inside or climb over it which he does plenty.

Yay! I'm not the only one! I took a video of my RT eating last night. Lol! My husband sees me on my phone, reading, and says "are you reading the turtle nerd forum again?" Yes, yes I am!

My wife thinks I'm nuts cause I keep showing her all the pics you people post. She can't believe I spend so much time here reading. Told her maybe if I started earlier we wouldn't of lost our female tort.

Lol. Turtle Nerd Forum.

Gtphale, I closely followed your post about your sick girl. Broke my heart just to read that it didn't end well. But she was lucky to have you and you did right by her. Looking forward to see your other little one in its newly designed enclosure and doing well.

That picture of your baby with his bottom in the air is hilarious. What a funny way to sleep. At this point I have tons of pictures of my tortoise baby and like two of my human baby. But I think she forgives me.
