Hi

Is it normal that if your tortoise hasn't eaten all his leaves in a couple of hours, he then won't eat it at all?

I'm throwing so much stuff away. Or should I put less in more often? All the leaves I offer are all liked :)

Rinse it under the tap before you feed and leave it... only chuck it if it's really had it. It doesn't do any harm to give it another swill if it's still there later.

At this time of year, I regularly put food out the night before for Joe and he'll eat it, slugs and all, next day... he often gets up before I do in the summer and is hungry!

It's not unusual for Joe to eat 36 hour old remains before he eats the fresh! 48 hours is usually the maximum I'll leave stuff outside.

Both OP and I are in the the UK... not SoCal or other blisteringly hot areas!

Indoors it doesn't last quite as long.

I would suggest instead of feeding him so much at one time, give him a smaller portion. When that is eaten, give him a little more. You don't have to give them one big meal a day. Also you will find he most likely has off days, where he just doesn't want as much as he did the day before.
