My friend has recently acquired a snake and he has a heat pad for him but no uvb light. Do snakes require uvb lights? I know torts do, but torts are diurnal and need it for calcium intake. I am no snake expert, but I do not want him to be doing the wrong thing for his new little guy. Thoughts?

Snakes do not require UVB lights. If he needs more heat than the heat mat provides, he can use a regular heat lamp during the day and turn it off at night, giving the snake a day/night cycle.

Also, if he just wants light without heat, a small regular fluorescent bulb would be fine. But the snake probably won't care about that either way.
