I ordered a 6 inch female and I believe it is a 4 inch male they were selling.

Can I get some russian tortoise experts here to give me your gender call.

I am not going to say yet where I got it from as it might just be an honest mistake and I don't want to hurt their store.

Please would you post a clear shot of the plastron (undershell) and tail so that we can see it from that angle please.

You don't need an expert for this one. Definitely a male tail.

I'd say male. males have a long slit towards the end of their tail and females have something like this * closer to they're body.

Thanks everyone. It is the Snake Shop in Las Vegas and they have been very nice on the phone. They are going to send me a refund and told me to keep the tortoise. He is very active and heavy about 5 inches.

Kind of a surprise. I have 1 4 inch male and 2 4 inch females right now. We will see if the males like each other. He is a 5.25 inch male so maybe full grown.

I had considered 2 males and 3 females so maybe that decision was made for me.

They have been very nice and I have told them that I will buy from them again.

At least they are working with you. Perhaps they can send you a pic of the next tort they plan to send you, so you can be sure.

Ultimately, 2 males to 4 females would be a better ratio, and much easier on the females. If you have a very, very big enclosure, the males might be able to co exist.

Thanks everyone they are doing great and so I will keep him. I have another female coming from lllreptile so I will have a the 2.3 Colony that can grow up together. Although my males are both probably full grown.

I have two seperate basking areas and 2 separate feeding areas so they have space to seperate if they want.

Bless you for keeping him. I have ordered a male russian tort to come in Oct.2013, and I have visions of getting a girl. But the thought of any animal being unwanted kills me, so you're a great tort mommie.
