I have a 3 year old Aldabra that I build a new insulated night box 4'x8' and heated. I live in Texas and temperatures are warm outside now but Darwin will not come out of the box. I just moved him out after 3 days but seems like he would just stay inside until he died. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I forgot to mention inside temperature of box is 84 on a thermostat.

Pictures would be very helpful.

What do you have for a door for the night box?
What does the enclosure look like?
How big is Darwin compared to the door?
Is there any lighting in the night box?
What direction does the door face?
Is there humidity / water dish in the night box?
Do you feed in the night box or nearby?
Has Darwin been in the enclosure before?

All good questions (of course) from Mark. I swear, our Sully does the same thing, each Spring and late Autumn, when relocated & has to use a “new” nightbox. They don’t like change! It wouldnt hurt to give him a nudge, and point his nose out the door. Not too much. Usually i do this with our Sully she’s all good.

Aldabras also tend to be quite shy, and this is also a factor.

The night box is Tom's plan. Darwin weighs 35lb and has plenty clearance on the door. No lighting in box and never fed in box. The door is the ramp to enter and exit with and have 6- 6"x12" water containers for humidity. He's been in the enclosure about a month. He will go back in the enclosure on his own occasionally. Door opening is 22"x30". I don't know how to post pic.
