Hi everyone

I have had my 2 year old Herman, Donny only a week now. I keep him in a tortoise table and have a 160w basking/heat lamp. I keep finding him buried in the substrate is this normal? I'm worried the light might be either to hot or not hot enough.
Any advise?ImageUploadedByTortForum1390510052.256929.jpg

My hermanns borrow themselves down all the time. It's totally normal as long as it's still eating and growing.

Balls can be a very well used play toy for some tortoises.

It would help to know what temps that bulb is keeping it at it's hottest spot right down there on the substrate where he is and if he can get to a cooler part of the enclosure if it is too hot. Always smart to double check your temps. Burying themselves is very normal, especially with the younger animals, so it could mean nothing.

Hermann's tortoises love to dig, so he's just having some fun. Don't worry about him.

I have 2 plastic balls for Toby in his hideout and he walks right past them :C

Yes it's a miniature tennis ball!, when I was doing my research on tortoise care before I got Donny I saw a lot of videos on YouTube of tortoises playing with balls so I thought I'd see! At the moment he just ignores it but I've been persevering with different types and colours of ball in the hope that one day he might like to play with it.
