Juno (5" greek) has been continuing to grow and has out grown her current enclosure (a 2x3 bookcase turned on it's back). With the move to the new apartment comes a new home for Juno!! Here are some pics of the project. The end product will be a 70.5"x40"x60" piece of funiture for displaying the tort and also providing extra storage.

The 3 piece stack and lock together. The bottom will be all cabinet space with 3 doors on the front. The middle section will hold all the substrate and be the ground for the tort. And the top section will act as a hood for the enclosure to keep out my cats and hold the light fixtures, etc... The front of the hood will be 2 doors angled back with view capabilites that will swing up for access into the enclosure. Got the framework skinned today but didn't get to take pictures. Those should be posted sometime Sunday night.

Holy cow, that's awesome! How will the lights be hung? Will they be inside the enclosure?

I have been in the process of designing a similarly shaped enclosure and have had a tough time figuring out how to make it so when I eventually move it can fit through the door and then I saw this. Great idea! I am going to steal so I hope you don't mind haha

What are you using to hold the 3 pieces together? Just screws you can easily take out?

Also, what did you use for the skin? Just plywood?

No screws needed. I built the pieces in a way that they interlock if you look at the corner shot of the middle section you can see the board across the bottom is a 2x6 and it is notched out to fit onto the top section. And for the top section onto the middle I'm going to have trim around the outside. The trim will give a place to lift the top section off the middle, cover the seems between sections giving it a more finished look and also locking the top section to the middle section. To skin the structure I used 1/4" 3-ply birch paneling and for the floor board of the middle section I'm using 1/2" 5-ply CDX plywood. Having it built in 3 sections was for wieght control and also because it will need to be moved atleast twice seeing as I don't own a house yet :) the largest section is 71"x40"x24".

Ill try to remember to take pictures of the locking points on Sunday :p

Had a chance to run over to my parents house to take pics of the inter-locking joint. Its a little hard to see because the plywood covers it once assembled

A side view of the middle section. The 2x6 sticks out the bottom to fit into the bottom section. I angled off the edges to help it align when assembling.

A view of the back side of the middle section. Again 2x6 circled in yellow.

This a birds eye view of where the 2x6 slides into the bottom section.

Hope these pictures help with future builds. Didn't think to take the picks before adding the skin.
