We have, I think, a little less than a quarter acre, so our neighbors are fairly close by. Will the weird smell of BBQing bother my Russian tortoise at all? Seems like a silly question, but I don't know how much the neighbor washes their grill and whether the smoke from grilling has carcinogens that could be harmful to a tortoise. Any insight?

What I would watch out for would be dogs or any other predators that may be attracted to the smells of the barbecue, then spot your tortoise and decide that's easier prey.

I never thought about that. I BBQ all the time near my sully. I would think unless the smoke is going directly towards him for a period of time. It would be fine.
