Today I was sent to pick up a juvinel DT that had been dumped at the local university for my chapter. Much to my surprise (and our adoption chair's) it was definately not a DT. I am not big into the aquatics but this I believe is in that family. It is not the typical slider that we run into here so I thought I would put it out there and see what you all think. It is hinged toward the front only. It will get turned into the aquatic lady later this week, but I sure would like to know what it is while it is visiting.
Thanks!

I added them into the post. I hope this works. I really don't know what I am doing - technology and all. I am just glad I didn't end up posting pictures from Halloween or something (LOL).
Thanks

I also think what you have there it is an African mud turtle (Pelusios castaneus).

Bear in mind, most turtles are aquatic, but they are not all closely related to each other. There are many different families of aquatic turtles.

The pond turtles (Emydidae and Geoemydidae) are closely related to tortoises (Testudinidae), and all three families are hidden-necked turtles (Cryptodira), meaning they retract their head straight back into their body. This African mud turtle, however, is a side-necked turtle (Pleurodira) of the family Pelomedusidae. Side-necked turtles are more primitive than hidden-necked turtles.

I love the eyes too and it is friendly... I can see why people would like to have it. It moves its head from side to side more than in and out - really cool.

WOW, he really does move his head from side to side and looks at you more with one eye at a time. It is a friendly turtle - no hissing or snapping.

WOW - very close, but the one here is definitely a West African Mud Turtle. Check out this link - he is really sweet and is 100% identical to these turtles (also side neck family).
