image.jpgHi, my name is Sophie we have been given a tortoise from a friend he's name is terry. We have been told he's a yellow footed tortoise but we are not sure. If anyone can help I would be grateful as I'm not sure he has the right things.

That is a bells hinge-back tortoise from western Africa. I would change out the pellets to mulch. Awesome tortoises.

Thanks very much. Will look up some more stuff to keep him happy. But if anyone knows anything else about them that would be great.

Good, it is a Western Hingeback for sure. While the TT's caresheet OK, it is a bit specific to certain species of hingeback. I would have a look at Mick's caresheet in the hingeback section.

His beak looks overgrown and will need some attention. Nice tort. Congrats.

Like grandpa said, you can try rough surfaced slate for food dish, or plain, non glazed Terra cotta plant dish that goes under flower pots. If you feed him mazzuri or forest tortoise graze, smear it onto the dish so he has to scrape it with his beak. If he has no problem eating, give it some time to see if its helping. If it doesn't, it may need trimming at the vet.
