Is there such a thing as "too much soaking"? My redfoot, Princess Bowser, spends AT LEAST an hour a day soaking herself. She even reaches over to her food container and eats while she soaks (what a tough life!). I don't mind it and think its adorable, as long as its not a precursor to something being wrong. Just a concerned momma worried about her brat :).

My redfoots regularly sleep in their terra cotta saucer overnight. The saucer sits right underneath a heat lamp so I'm not worried about it getting too cold. I refer to it as "sleep wallowing." :)

My larger RF does that as well. My only concern would be shell rot. Mgridgaway, you don't have issues with that? I inspect plastrons daily, and clean off any debris.

My redfoot and cherry sleep also over night on the water dish sometime, on my observation they sleep there when the weather here is hot

Sandy, I wouldn't be worried about shell rot as long as your water is fairly clean. It more has to do with wet substrate and picking up a fungus that way.

Thanks everyone :). I'm glad she's not the only one then. I guess I can't blame her for being in her own little hot tub all day, I would be too if I could!

She sounds prefectly healthy and normal. As long as they have a place that is not always wet and damp to dry off their plastrons, they should not get a rot. A lot of this is simply getting to know your animal and what it likes to do. It's when it does stuff out of character that you have to start questioning why it is doing it.
