Eastern Box Babies

I was wondering what the difficulty of taking care of an eastern hatchling would be. Would it be as hard as a hatchling sully? I'm interested in getting one since they are so common in Florida

A hatchling of any turtle or tortoise is going to be harder to raise than a subadult or an adult.
The other thing is that any Terrapene carolina subspecies is not legal to buy or sell in Florida. It is fine for you to own 2, but not to have bought them. It is though perfectly legal to own/buy Ornate box turtles, Terrapene ornata in Florida.

Marty I say this without trying to be mean, I would go for an older turtle than try with another baby, boxies are generally pretty easy to take care of, and they are a lot smaller.

Boxies are even HARDER to care for than a baby tortoise.

Your best bet is that whatever you get, get a yearling.

No I understand about getting a yearling or an adult Im all for that now So I can keep them in florida but not buy them?? Im confused how would I get one?

someone would have to give it to you, someone who can no longer take care of one, a rescue group, something like that.

Yup, if you can find one in a shelter or a rescue group and adopt it, that is fine. You just can't buy one.

If you find an ornate, they are legal to buy.

I think you would love a little boxie. Try to find one that is at least 2 years old. They are friendly, curious, and just a fun little turtle. My favorite. See if there's a rescue near you.
