Hello folks,
My brother is building me a PVC closed chamber enclosure for my leopard tortoise.
He asked me what type of glue to use.
From reading the threads, it sounds like many use PVC cement.

Is this correct?
What brand is best?
Does it come in a tube?
Is there one w/ a slower cure?

Thanks in advance!
Katie

This is what my husband used to assemble my Russian tort’s enclospure:

It had a low VOC level, but you definitely can not dawdle since it sets up quickly! Have your clamps at the ready.

Just get regular old PVC cement from the hardware store - but be sure to get the clear stuff as the purple stuff is, well, really purple!

I would recommend using the medium clear PVC cement. The "regular" shown in a post above is thinner and used for small pipe. The "medium" is used for larger pipe as it is slightly thicker (has greater viscosity) so it is better for the long seams you will be cementing. Be sure it has a wet look when you put the pieces together. You will have about 20 seconds to adjust/readjust the piece and still get a good joint.

One thing to consider: As fast as little ones grow and as big as they get this chamber will need to be huge or won't be good for any more than a couple years at most.

Yes, thank you. The enclosure is going to be 8‘ x 3‘, but I’m sure in time that will need to be expanded.
Can it be built up, a second level??
