I used to let my rabbit romp around a carpeted bedroom. After a few months, the carpet was ruined. I could never get those stains out. It was a blessing when I moved him outdoors. I wonder how that floor is going to hold up. The tort footprints are kind of cute, but I wouldn't want to have to clean that up. I get annoyed enough when Charlie messes on the patio. At least I can hose it off.

In the short time since I joined this forum, I've seen quite a few posters go off in a huff at the first politely-worded warning.

Please-- I have all that covered. Chill. Omg. Some people have to inject all of their "woe is me"s. I was sharing a picture for heaven's sake. Don't interrogate or make ASSumptions.
Interesting that she asks not to make ASSumptions.

Do people who say that realize there are two side to the assumption? - one that she ISN'T aware of these things, the other that she IS aware of these things. So she is asking us to actually ASSume - that she is aware and nothing can happen.

Isn't it more dangerous to ASSume that these things are known, and say nothing? Especially when there is something in the photo that would raise understandable questions?

Geez , its a typical forum ! A lot of people are thin skinned , if that's the case they really should give up the whole "forum thing" or just lurk and gain the knowledge they seek ! Don't get so hung up on it , the sun is gonna rise again tomorrow , and if it doesn't no one here can do anything about it !!

I wholeheartedly agree. I lurked for weeks until I felt my setup was up to snuff and ready for tweaks from the pros.
While not everyone has the same appreciation for advice from seasoned veterans, us lurkers are learning from these threads.

Ya know, sorry if I was overly sensitive but it is what it is. I am a responsible and loving animal lover for 6 decades and want people to share without automatically being questioned unless they ask for help--- kinda like parenting older teens. You want them to share so unless you see some real red flags you smile and nod. (I raised 12 and 10 GKs)

Don't forget with torts little problems don't just grow slowly in to red flags . It's more that one min you have a little problem and then bang you have a " red flag " but smile we are all here to help and that's why people come here . They don't come to tell us the answers .

I understand what you are saying. However, it's the concern for the animal and the fact that many members come here to show how cute their tort is and never ask for help or advice. Not going to say nothing so the animal can suffer. It's about the animal and we don't always know if the owner knows of the correct care needed.

My redfoot enclosure would get plenty of "advice" from people on the forums I'm sure. I assure you, he is not suffering. He has improved greatly since adopting him. There are people who neglect/abuse animals and then there are people who do things different than you would.

Before adoption and six months later.

That's true. There are more ways then one. However, surviving and thriving are two different things. The goal should be to have them thrive not just survive. Not saying yours aren't, just saying that should be the goal for any animal and a poor/improper set up/diet/temps, etc can't let them do that.

Of course! But there is more than one way to do things.

As a side note...When I read the title of your post and saw you were attaching photos, I was extremely interested to talk to you and see what you were posting about because I, myself, keep my young adult sulcata inside over the winter months and intend to continue housing her indoors through my extremely rough winter seasons for the foreseeable future. I was looking forward to reading about and sharing with another member who may be in a similar situation.

When I came upon this...

-------------------------------Particularly this rudeness---^
I decided I'd rather avoid your posts in the future. She only posed questions and expressed a concern. You could have easily ignored it and moved on.

i would love to talk to you about indoor winter housing, i'm in Northern Illinois

As a newbie to this forum, I want to point out that these posts are also searchable, and I've been pulling up a lot of old ones for things I have questions about. If I searched for wintering indoors, this would pop up even next winter and seeing the original post, I might not realize personally there are a lot of dangers (I've worked with animals enough to know, but someone might not). So, even if the OP knows, it's nice to point out the considerations for future forum readers, imho. It's not an insult to the person who made the post, but it's good for future owners too.

The conditions might be fine for your situation, but it's important for someone to know they aren't ideal or there were considerations made, so they can make the choice.

Yeah, us northerners shouldn't have sulcata, if you believe some articles I have read....

For winter, I am going to dedicate a spare room for now. I will have a large enclosure in there as big as possible. Once that is too small, I will probably use my 1600 plus sq ft building.

I also have a small hog barn. Concrete floor with concrete 4 feet up the walls, then a wood building on top. I may take off the wood part and replace with a green house. That should extend its use each year. I could fence of a yard behind it as well.
