I recently purchased from a Woman on craigslist. I am still unsure what species it is. I think that it is either a Hermanns tortoise or a Marinated tortoise and pretty sure it is from the testudo family. I just wanted to know of anyone canm tell from the attached pics what species of tortoise this is?

Hi, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum.
I agree with you, it's one or the other.
I think it's a Hermann's myself, but I don't have either species,so not 100%
Best to ask @HermanniChris
He will almost certainly know.

Thanks for the welcome. I am leaning toward the tortoise being a Marinated tortoise. The woman that I got him from told me that he was a Russian tortoise but he seems much larger than a Russian and larger than a Hermanns.

Hmmm, you may well be right, I can't tell scale from the photo.
How long is he ? (plastron length).

His plastron measures about seven inches but his limps and legs are very thick and much thicker than a Russian. Also he is much heavier than a Russian and he looks more like a ten ich turtle.

It's a Hermann's tortoise. Not a chance it's anything else and it's either an eastern (T. h. boettgeri) or Dalmatian (T. h. hercegovinensis) but I'll need a plastron shot to tell. Also, judging by the Marginated-like flaring of the marginal scutes, it looks to be a male.

It's an eastern (Testudo hermanni boettgeri) and certainly is a male. ☺️
