What have I found ??? Turtle or tortoise?

I recently found a tortoise in my garage, I think it's a male because of the tail and concaved belly, since then I had someone give me what they thought was a female because of flat belly. I think I have 2 male tortoises. If I send pics can u tell me is I have a tortoise or turtle and if it is male or female? And maybe even what kind of tortoise.

Lets play the guessing game just for fun without any more clues from beaucoup dinero...

Hm-m-m-m... let's see

He's in Northern California (my mental telepathy tells me this)...

He found a turtle/tortoise in his garage...

The animal has a concave belly and a male tail...

Someone gave him another "tortoise" with a flat belly...

Ok, concave might mean desert, Texas, redfoot, but I'm going with male desert tortoise.

The new tortoise has a flat belly but he thinks its male, so I'm going with male Russian.

Let's all take a guess and in the meantime, I'm going to send Beau Coup Dinero an email and see if we can't get a picture.
