UVB Light and Basking Light

Do these have to be placed side by side? Or can I separate them on different levels of my enclosure?

Tell us what they are first. What type of UVB light did you buy? And what type of basking lamp?

Zoo med repti basking spot lamp; Zoo Med Powersun UV Self-Ballasted Mercury Vapor UVB Lamp

Those do not need to be side by side. You can have two different basking spots in your enclosure if you wish.
