Does anyone know where you can get an affordable U\V meter? I found some on Amazon but they don't read artificial U/V rays. Thanks.

Define affordable? If I remember correctly they run around a couple hundred bucks. @Tom has tried out a couple I think, he usually posts where he gets them from. Hopefully he sees this and posts the link.

Tom did just recommend one to someone in anther thread.
I think it was a Solarlight 6.5 - but will check.
Reads UVi which I think he said is UVB and UVA levels.
They aren't cheap though, about £199 on Amazon UK

This is mine. It's a UV index meter.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1445571172.834904.jpg can't remember what it cost, at least $150. But my tortoises spend more than six months inside so I decided it was worth it.

I had to order this one directly from the company. All the reptile websites I went to didn't have it. They had the 6.2 m but I wanted the 6.5.

Yep. That's the one. I get them here:
https://www.solarmeter.com/model65.html

The price may seem high, but its a high quality, accurate, reliable meter. Doesn't do any good to save money if the meter you get is not reliable. For people who depend on indoor UV for several months a year, I think these are essential. Its steep, but your tortoise is worth it. Ask anyone who has dealt with an animal suffering from MBD if they could go back in time and pay $250 to prevent it. I guarantee that every one of them would say yes.

Its worth the money.

Think that's the one Tom recommended. Solarmeter (not Solarlight)

That is the one I use. I was able to get a used one on Ebay for 120$ US. It is the only way to know when the bulbs are bad and what height should you set the lighting.
