Thanks so much for posting this. Just read the whole thing. I can't wait until radiata come down to $40 a pop! :) Unreal how many captive platynota are being produced too. So glad to hear some good news.

The segment about the radiated tortoise massacre is extremely sad, but the opening of the new school inspired by turtle conservation is very hopeful to me. It's great to see that people living in extreme poverty still respect the wildlife and the land "given to them by their ancestors" (Malagasy culture), and are willing to make changes for the better. They could quite easily erode their taboo cultures and eradicate any traces of radiated tortoise, yet they choose not to. Not to sound cynical, but I wonder, if all of us tortoise forum members were to live the lives of these Malagasy in the spiny deserts of Madagascar, would we turn to eating tortoises and slashing and burning the land for agriculture? Just some food for thought; please don't take it negatively. :)
