How can you tell how old a tortoise is?

Long story short, you can't.

Ask to see their drivers license.
But really, the only way to really know would be to raise one as a hatchling. All age guesses are just that, guesses.

Good luck with that. Tortoises typically don't carry licenses, because they dont have pockets!!

We got some funny character here. Love it.

You have to subtract their hatch date from the current date.

For example: a tortoise hatched in May of 2010 will be four years old in May of 2014.
