Making a Russian tort enclosure it is 36 and a half long wise inches and 17 inches wide is that too small?

Yes, in my opinion, that is too small. I'm assuming this is a full grown Russian? They need a lot of space because they walk a lot. A 4 or 5 shelf book case laying on its back with the shelves removed is a good size for a full grown Russina.

I agree with Yvonne. That would be a good size to start a hatchling though.

If you have already made it, perhaps you can make a second one and joint them together with a doorway? They like going through things.
If the tort is a hatchling, it will work for a few months.
Overall, it needs to be large/long enough so you can have a difference in temperature on the warm and cool side.

This is a good idea if the other one is already built, just add on to your existing table...
