I can someone tell me how often should I clean the dirt out of my cage

Greetings. Most people just spot clean their enclosures. What kind of substrate are you using, how large of an enclosure? I used to take out a bunch every few weeks or so & refresh it with clean new substrate. Never completely switched it out. The old substrate was added in and about our garden plants.
