image.jpg Hello ! I recently rescued a sulcata tortoise that was found in a park in N. Florida . She seems to be experiencing peeling around the edges of one of her scutes . I'm hoping someone could assist me in diagnosing the problem. She spends six hours a day outside foraging grass . The other six she is under a full spectrum bulb and has access to orchard grass in her enclosure. She also gets a calcium/vitamin d powder on treats a few times a week. Her other scutes look good and she is free of pyramiding . Also she is soaked 2 x a week. Any help is greatly appreciated !

What is the temp under the bulb? They can burn their shell. Was this a problem before you got her?

It looks like the new growth is being burned by the light. As long as the tortoise is getting that much outside time you don't need a full spectrum bulb indoors. I would just use a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) and don't allow it any closer to the shell than 12"

A very warm welcome to the forum.

How about reading the care sheets? That would help you.

And hope to hear your tort is better, soon. Good luck to you, both.
