Hey so I'm just trying to do my research and I was wondering at what age should a Sulcata be moved outside full time?? I'm new here and I'm just trying to do my homework, thanks for any help.

Many variables. The climate in which you live being the biggest, and what type outdoor enclosure you will have.

For me in Central Calif. I do move my sulcatas outside permanently when they reach about 8-10". That is normally their second year.

Yes thank you! Your post helped us make our decision! We decided on a Sulcata and just ordered through tortoise supply. We are fully prepared to have him/her for the rest of our lives and ready to give them the best life they could have! We will also be back in Texas in a few years and they will have their own yard to live a long happy life!

At the risk of being told how wrong I am , I will tell you Speedy lived in a 60 Gal. long aquarium for a bit over a year and I/2 ! ;) Now you can read all the posts above the line in the Sulcata section to learn the best way to set up your new hatchling ! :)

Mine usually reach 8-10" and need to live outside after about 12-18 months.

That sounds great! We got our sulcata when my youngest child was 6. They were fascinated by the idea that the little tortoise would grow big enough to ride on. Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for Charlie, that didn't happen until my kids were too big.

That's great! Thank you for the encouragement! Maybe our grandkids? ;)
