Hi guys, I have a 1,5 year old leopard tortoise that was started dry in her first 6 months. She is pyramided, even though I keep her the humid and hot way now.
She pyramids mainly on the top, on the sides she is quite ok so I was thinking, maybe I have a bad light?? For basking I have solar raptor 50W and for lighting the terrarium I have Trocal T5 special plant 54W. Do you think I should change any of the lights?

Many thanks.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1412360328.504212.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1412360342.903618.jpg

We don't know those lights, or their effects here in this country.

Solar Raptors don't produce much heat, and the florescent bulb doesn't either. Where does your tortoise bask for warmth and what is the temperature there?

All tortoises pyramid primarily on top.

A humid hide, and spraying the shell with water several times a day will help the newer growth to come in smoother. It just takes a lot of time and effort to stop pyramiding that is already in progress.

Our tortoise doesn't really bask. It used to sometimes but now he just walks around shortly, eats and stays in his house and sleeps... In the basking end it has about 40 Celsius, in the cooler right corner around 33 celsius and during the night it can drop down to 24 celsius.

Thanks for any tips!

Just looking at the substrate, to me it looks very dry, not wet or moist at all. (I could be dead wrong though) How are you maintaing high humidity levels?

Sorry, I don't do celcius, but the night temps need to be no lower then 80 degrees and humidity 80% with a basking spot of at least 95. They have to be able to warm upto and past 85 degrees at the least to properly digest their food.
Toms great threads for raising leopards, temps and humidity are below in my post. They should help you.

Your lights look fine and your temperatures sound fine to me. Not keen on the water dish, something bigger with lower sides would be better but I like your enclosure.
