I was wondering what substrate to use for my baby horsefield tortoise. I have read forums about using topsoil, but i have read if maintained in this, wet, this will give them skin, shell and respiratoy infections, so not sure about this. Also had a wee look and thought that herbifloor/grass pellets could be good for normal substrate and coco coir misted once a day for a digging place. Would this suit? Right now I have him on a green reptile carpet and shredded paper for digging. What objects could i use to entertain him? Right now he has rocks, hide and food but really seems to be climbing up his hide seeming board. How could i entertain Odin/ my tortoise? Thanks so much.

Welcome to TFO. Your tortoise needs warm humidity to grow healthily. The substrate must be damp, but not wet, and this cannot be achieved with pellets.
