A friend of mine came over with SURPRISE me: a tiny little tort. Obviously she does not know that torts do NOT co-exist. I took the tort and gave him/her a warm soak in water immediately.

Here's a pic of the tort.

mail

What species is he/she? I know one cannot tell the gender of a tort when he/she is so young. What am I to feed him/her?

Your help as well as advise would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Definaely a Testudo. Can you post a picture of it with the shell cleaned off so we can see the pattern. And a picture of the plastron too?
Sure. Just give me some time please.

Thank you.

Definitely a Greek of some sort, most likely Levantine, though it could possibly be from further east of the Levant. Hard to say without a clean pic and shots of the plastron.

Terribly sorry, I won't be able to take pics of OLI "NUMBER II" now. He/she is in deep sleep and I do not want to disturb him/her.

Apologies.

Hi Gillian: What a cute little baby. We have a very good care sheet for Greek tortoises, written by HermanniChris, and he really knows his stuff. How lucky you are to have this precious little thing.

How's the new tortoise today?
He/she is fine thank you. Mind you, I've been worried about space issue. Oli's enclosure which is not all that big has occupied a large part of the room it is in. Moreover the flat is small as is. And last but not least torts cannot co-exist.

What an issue!

This picture is quite blurry, and the second picture did not post at all. But, as Tglazie said above, it is a greek tortoise. If you want to know more on subspecies, clear pictures with the little guy clean would be necessary as well as a look by @HermanniChris

The good news it's so small and will not require a big enclosure for a while. I think for small torts of this size they feel more safe and secure in a smaller environment.
