Hi there I am a new member my name is Leslie, and I have Sandy a 12 yr old African spurred thied tortoise, that has his manly hood stuck out and can't get it back in???for a few days now, I've been soaking him in warm baths, it dont seem to work, I've read on the web to wrap it in a sugar water cloth (OSMOSIS) and I called a vet from a zoo, and he said the same thing. he said it could last from 1 hour to one month . does anyone know anything to help me out, thanks so much ,Leslie

Hi Leslie,
Pouring sugar directly on his manhood should help. If it doesn't go down enough for you to push it back in, you need to get to a vet ASAP. If his manhood dries out at all he will have to have it removed. This is a very serious matter and needs attention right away.

Wow! I didn't even know that could happen. It's kind of like that Viagra commercial. Good luck. :D Candy

Please don't wait till Monday, as it's already been 2 days. You need to get to a vet tomorrow if at all possible. If you can't you need to keep his manhood from drying out, so lots of vasoline or triple antibiotic ointment. Also keep him in something plactic with no substrate. This will keep his manhood clean and be easy to use the ointment or vasoline.

Leslie: This condition is called "prolapse" and can be serious, as Danny has stated. If its at all possible, you need to take him to the vet tomorrow.

Young male sulcatas usually put out their penis when they get to be at the male "teen-age" time of life. They like to play with it and feel what its all about. They soon tire of it and stop, however when they are in the playing stage, it only stays out for minutes, not days. So your guy has a prolapsed penis and should be tended to ASAP.
