Sheldons's new indoor set-up

I'm not sure what to call it, but this is his new partially closed, semi vented chamber? He has full roam of the porch in the summer but the cold is coming... So I built him this 4x2x18 box. Let me know what ya think I should change if anything!

Forgot to add that the heat bulb will be roughly 4-5" higher than the pic shows. Due to a lack of tape measure i guesstimated the depth and with the fixture and bulb it'd only be 8" away from the top of his shell to the light

Is that heigth with or without substrate?

After I make the top higher it'd be roughly12-13" from the top of his shell to the light with substrate...

Thank you, I love it so far! Just hope the air gap above the heat lamp is enough, seems as though the porcelain gets pretty hot!? I guess a time run will tell. Didn't know of any other way to mount the light?

PS if you're interested, Lowe's sells all kinds of pre made wood that I'm sure you could assemble something with!

I think most bulbs state there should be 20cm between top of shell and tortoise, in my case that provided me a headache as the top of my enclosure is 60cm away! I think your enclosure looks great.

It equals out to around 19.70 cm from his shell to the light with my quick measuring skills lol. And thank you very much! I'd trade problems with ya!

Will do! It should hopefully be done enough to get him in it mid week! I just have to do some touch up stuff and install the glass front panels...

So far he seems to be enjoying himself in his new home. He still goes on the porch when the weather is nice during the day. Any suggestions if I'm missing anything? Also what is good to plant?


The pellets are usually mixed with dandelion greens and other mixed greens I can find, I think I'm going to stop trying them tho cause I haven't seen him eat them yet.
