scut shedding

HI boxy lovers. I am Albert, a 3-toed Eastern who is just waking up from my long winter's nap. I m over 30 yrs old and have been outgrowing my scute now from my carapace. Should I be alarmed?
There isn't any redness just a hard brown layer there.

Box turtles don't shed or outgrow their scutes, so it sounds like something is wrong. Can we see a picture of the area you're talking about?

I've decided to take Albert to his vet. I discovered this nick last year after being in his outdoor pen. I think he nicked it and now it has become bigger. So off we go.
