See like this .Harry raised cthe old way Dozer raised the Tom's way. Witch one would you be proud to say you raised? The pyramided one or smooth? I know Harry isn't pyramiding bad but pyramided nonetheless.
I was kinda talking about a real bad looking tort. 2 around same size, one real nice one and then one that's just real bad off. I hate to sound that way but now a days you really have to shock people to their core to get them to listen. Your guy might have some slight pyramiding but he doesn't really scream "your doing me wrong". I think he looks great by the way!! Both of them.

I do this all the time . Every time I walk in a pet shop I will show them pictures of Harry then Dozer . Then give them a care sheet . I have got two shops to add a water bowl to the enclosure . But they say it cost to much to use substrate instead of rabbit food . Baby steps . It will get around .

to be frank , i wont about bother about pet shops unless they are specialize , they always have low knowledge staff to begin with .
We have a 1 hour video of a wild Leopard tortoise from Ethiopia.

Ellie is a wild Leopard Tortoise from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
She lives in a Villa where my girl friends daughter lived this summer. The guard at the Villa said that she showed up about 5 years ago.
We also have video that we are editing.
The residents of the Villa occasionally feed her Injera which is a local bread made from the grass Eragrostis tef which is high in fiber, iron, protein and calcium.

How does one keep it humid? I spray the coconut coir substrate several times a day and keep a shallow dish of water that has to be refilled about twice a day and yet his humidity is also very very low

You can make a thread about it and show us pictures of your tortoise enclosure :) I'm sure everyone here would love to help!

Does your enclosure have a top on it?

Soak the coir in boiling water...drain off the excess...then reline habitat. Misting substrate is a waste of time!

But they say it cost to much to use substrate instead of rabbit food .

This has never made any sense to me and I've pointed it out to several shops and people. A big bag of cypress mulch or orchid bark costs around $5. A 50 pound bag of rabbit pellets is $17.50. Why does anyone think rabbit pellets are cheaper?

For the sake of tortoises and reptiles in general, I applied at a Petco local here that told me outright they needed a reptile specialist. Here in Oregon, I do have some credibility in the reptile world. They got back to me saying they didn't want to risk hiring me because I was “overqualified"!
As a whole, the mega pet stores are really only interested in profit and corporate stand on care. It's very hard to get the attention up the corporate ladder. Maybe an in humane law suit would wake them from there slumbers.
