Safety for tortoises.

I have 3 cats so my indoor enclosure needs a lid on top. Right now I have an aluminum screen but I feel the holes are too tiny and impossible to see my torts! what do you recommend?

The lid needs to handle the heat of the lights!

What kind of torts do you have? More humidity loving, in which case plexiglass with hole(s) cut for the lighting?
If not, larger gauge (larger holes) wire attached to a 1"x2" frame.
