I have been doing a lot of research on Tortoises and have decided Russians would be a good fit for our family. I live in Southern California and I'm looking to preferably pick up verses shipping.
Presumably your research has told you that if you get them from different sources they must be kept separately in quarantine for a few months?
You must also be prepared to keep them separately on a long term basis. Russians are solitary in the wild and do not always share nicely. Lots of space and plenty of hide-outs help, but this is difficult to achieve indoors.
Russians fight nasty and blood is frequently drawn.
I'm not saying don't. I'm just checking that you are being realistic in your plans.
Thank you for the tip JoesMum! I was not aware of them not getting along. I wanted to try and get them from one place but maybe I will look at only one with the new info.
You can call me Shurie I still have a lot to learn so any informative information would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on doing as much research as possible before we obtain our new family member(s) to make sure we are fully prepared! I do have a friend who is part of the Tortoise Rescue whom I can contact at any time, but outside information is appreciated as well. Thanks!!!
