I'm going to place an order online today for either 5.0 or 10.0 zoomed tube lighting. I feel that my old one need to be replace it was exo-terra I know they are so so. I'm sure most of you will choose 10.0. It's for my greek. Thanks again.

If I were to choose between the two for a Greek tortoise I would choose the 5.0. I absolutely do not feel comfortable using higher intensity UV lights.

What subspecies of Greek tortoise do you have?

Thanks. I have no clue of what type she is but here's a link to the pic of her. I guess i'll grab a 5.0 then.

I agree 5.0 for a tortoise, 10.0 for a chameleon and other arborial critters.

After a long lengthy discussion with a 20 year veteran breeder that is retiring from the trade, really either will work for light and to grow plants. It can help your Torts to assimilate calcium and grow smooth and strong shells. They need the light waves not the heated air. The Desert 10.0 will put out the most UVB.

Heat will have to come from an incadescent full spectrum lamp.

The reptile flood lamps put out too much heat for Greeks. You're heating Torts not melting cheese. The GE Reveal was recommended by the same breeder. Great I said, I took the one I put in the Mrs walk-in closet. :D

Keep the old lamp for a spare or for use in a double strip to grow plants, etc. The aquarium lamps that are included with striplights are about 7-8000K degrees and good to grow plants. A "K" or Kelvin rating of 5500-6500 is a good estimate to simulate a noon sun. At 6000 degrees (K), the ratio between red and blue is equal. Above 6000 and the light emitted looks blue. Hope that helps.

And the correct answer is:

Accoring to ZooMed:

5.0 is good for 12 inches away

10.0 is good for 20 inches away

So, you'll need to have the lamp that far away from your pets.

From the front, looks like Testudo gracea ibera which is a Northern Mediterranean subspecies. Their care requirements differ slightly from Middle Eastern Gracea.
