Not usually. Sometimes they will make noise when they are constipated.

What do you feed the tortoise, and how often do you soak?

Not a great diet. That might be your issue. Sulcatas are grass eaters. They need a high fiber diet. Grocery store greens like lettuce and spring greens are very low in fiber. Fruit should never be fed to them because the sugars mess up their GI tract.

You've got to find a way to get the right foods into your tortoise, or at least supplement and amend the grocery store greens with some fiber and variety one way or another.

Here is some diet info, and there is more diet info in the care sheet:

BTW, your tortoise looks great!

None of them eat grass hay when they are little. Hay is for older, larger tortoises, and even then it must be introduced and you have to "teach" them to eat it. I don't even start trying to introduce it until they are 12+ inches.

Regardless, your tortoise needs a much better diet, and this is the reason your tortoise is having poop issues. You can improve the diet in many ways very easily, and those methods are described in the threads I linked for you. Saying the tortoise "has hay but doesn't eat it", doesn't not solve your problem, and this problem is going to get worse if you don't take action.

In my experience both of the Sulcata that I have now make very loud grunting noises when pooping. They are free fed locally grown grass hay, so their poops are mostly hay with very little feces involved in it.

I have the same experience as Maggie - my 100+ pound sulcata grunts audibly when he poops. He has nice, moist, well formed poops and has a diet of 98% growing Bermuda grass and weeds and 2% grocery store greens. I should add that his poops are quite large.
