Hello

I want to know my tortoise's gender.

I live in Korea and no one know about ploughshare.

I think first one is female and other ones are male.

They are different on neck site.

Anyone knows about ploughshare's gender?

Please let me know. Thank you

I know nothing about this species, but yours are absolutely gorgeous. For most other species, it is difficult to sex them when they are so young. Having said that, the middle one seems to have a larger tail suggesting a possible male.

... and... Hello and welcome to the forum.

Please keep posting lots and lots of pics of your babies. Those are extremely rare here in the US, and we would love to see more of them.

Hi Alcanpel:

Welcome to the forum!!

I'm going to guess the two top pictures are male and the bottom picture "MIGHT" be female.

Looking at the anal scutes, the two top pictures show the scutes flaring outward towards the legs, while the bottom picture shows the anal scutes pointing straight back.

This MIGHT change as the tortoises get bigger, so its strictly a guess.

Hi Ed,

We'd better not talk about "HOW" to get this tortoise over here, ha ha , PM me if you want to know how.

Hi alcanpel

There are two ways to tell the gender of Angonoka, one is their tail , the other is their Angulate!

Hi Ed,

This is Jimmy. Please donot forget to send me your tortoise Pics!!!!

RE: ploughshare's gender

We all know how they got them.....LOL.

I seen baby Yniphora for sale in asia for 700-1000 us dollars, about as much as a baby radiata costs here in the states.

They are a bit small to tell for sure, but :p

The first one looks like a male, the second and third females. The last picture you posted looks like a female also.

Yeah, You are right, but if there is no exchange rate difference, Raidated and Angonoka are much expensive in Asia market compared to US market.

The general public never sees Yniphora for sale in the states. Radiata are very expensive in the states.

I hear I can get 5-10 radiata for what I pay in the USA. I have seen lots of the asian websites selling illegal animals as well.

I know sulcatas & redfoots are expensive in the asia market compared to US market.

Either way, I hope you guys keep those Yniphora alive and breed them.

I seen a pic of 5-6 Yniphora (adults & young adults) in a small bathroom. Sad

Here is the pic

RE: ploughshare's gender

yeah, I agree those are sad Angonoka, but they are dealer not actual buyer. Animal dealer are all the same internationaly!!!! However, I 100% sure people who will buy those tortoise will give a very well care for these tortoises. and Please do not worry, Asian will contribute to keep this species from extinct!

RE: ploughshare's gender

Asian breeders are doing a wonderful job with Burmese Star tortoises and some of the rare freshwater turtles. Good luck and keep us updated!

Alcanpel, can you please send me some fresh kimchee and kal-bi. Thank you. Thanks for sharing photos as well

RE: ploughshare's gender

BTW, I know the price for RF and Sulcatas in Asian market. They are the cheapest tortoise in Asian market! around $70~~80 USD per baby which is almost same price in US. However, If you do not consider exchange rate and living standard, Asian pay way more for any species tortoises compared to U.S.. And Do not forget supply and demand!! So tortoise price in Asia is reasonable! So do not be jealous about tortoises' price in Asia. If we change our role, we will pay the same price!

RE: ploughshare's gender

Xiabochu...that is true about the living standard. You are correct about that and I didn't factor the wages of a typical worker in Asia (which is notorious around the world and evident by the plethora of employers who moved their factories over there).

Though, the big difference is it is relatively easier to obtain Yniphora in Asia.....NO DOUBT about that.

Only zoos and institutions are getting Yniphora here. There is only one private individual who has a legal Yniphora that I know of.

I am sure there are some illegal ones here, but they aren't advertised for sale on websites or at reptile shows like in Asia.

And you are correct if our roles were reversed. There are a lot of very passionate keepers in Asia who would apply/pay for permit to keep certain species and the money for the specimens. There are a lot of great people in Asia and around the world doing crucial volunteer work to help save some of the rarest animals species.
