Personally I would not try to transition him/her outdoors for months at a time...a few hours a day outside would be plenty of sun. Avoids the risks like overheating and predators. But if your mind is made up, Just do the enclosure right (preferably with a lid/top) and put him in there. Make sure nothing dangerous grows in there, and try to make sure the hide is in the shade.
Be VERY careful how you do the enclosure...they can and WILL escape if you do not dig proof the bottom.
