The substrate might be OK, but the enclosure is not. Tortoises do not like glass enclosures. They stress out way too much trying to figure out why they cant get past the glass. A large Rubbermaid would work much better if you cant build a tortoise table for the little fella. Glass tanks also restrict airflow which is crucial. Are you able to come up with a new enclosure?

Also if you would like pics of different tort setups that would be more appropriate for the leopard let me know and I can post some for you.

I live in WI, and my Leopard hatchling is in a rubbermaid container. My warm/basking side averages 95-105 and the cool side sits around 72 during the day. Glass tanks also dont allow a temp gradient such as this that is necessary for the little guy to thermo regulate his body temperature.

Even a $10 concrete mixing tub from Home Depot, Lowes or FLeet Farm will work excellent such as the black one here. I keep one adult male Hermanns in there for now over winter.

I only see one light as well, are you using a UVB/heat combo??? If not you need one of those or at least a heat bulb AND a UVB bulb.

As for your substrate I would recommend a mix of 50/50 coco and play sand as the base. You can make the different areas with the bark like you have it but I would have the mix underneath to promote humidity. (mist the substrate a couple of times per week and stir it in) I would also suggest using damp sphagnum moss underneath the hide box as well. Mist it every few days for him.

i do like your setup. where would i get the coco? and the play sand i can just get at home depot right? i do have a uvb bulb on its way. what size it the Rubbermaid? i was trying to have it fit in the aquarium stand i have. i might make a wood table to fit on top of the stand so i dont have to use the glass.

thanks

You can pick up Coco bedding (also called BedABeast) at any pet store usually. It comes in a small brick that you mix with the appropriate amount of water and let it sit for a few hours and it expands in a huge amount. You can store excess in a rubbermaid container as well. Yes play sand at any home depot.

That is a sweater box that is about 22"x14"x6" high. Should sit on top of the aquarium stand just fine. My little one sits on a buffet in my dining room so that it gets more attention.

They should, any of the ones that are about 6" high will work just fine. Should get good airflow with that.

The craft stores and big box stores this time of year have a fantastic selection of sizes for holiday storage.

Hi, your enclosure is bad, and bark is not exactly good for tortoises.
The best enclosure would be one of the following:
Storage tub
bookcase tipped on its back
indoor rabbit cage
or tortoise table

substrate should be soil and playsand 50/50 mixture OR bed-a-beast, also hemcore and aspen are fine to use.

Taylor, please read the rest of the thread before replying. You basically retyped pretty much everything I said and you seem to do this allot.
