I don't know if its been shown on here before, but i came across this housing and like it, particularly as its on a stand and I have a baby in the house, plus it looks like it is everything my tortoise needs. But you're the experts so please advise.

That could be made to work for a small tortoise for a while.

The Penn Plax Tortoise Palace is a nice enclosure, if you need something covered, and can't fashion a lid yourself. Your tortoise will outgrow that in a couple of years, so you would have to come up with something new, that might affect your thoughts about the cost.

The main concern is if you should line it, even thought they say 'waterproof' MDF. You do want to keep the substrate moist and keep some plants in there for hides. Silk plants from craft stores work, too.

Since you have a young Redfoot, I believe, you could use the stand for a heat source like a CHE with the proper fixture. Then you could have a hood with a UV tube light, long enough to stretch the length of the wire, 3 feet? Whatever length works. Covering the remaining wire screen with plexiglass (but not under the CHE) will help hold humidity in (not even sure plexiglass will be needed?).

You might also consider a decent sized aquarium (see TerryO's RF set ups), or a storage box. You can use the lid, but cut out 4/5 of the middle of the lid.
