I went outside today and seen my next door neighbor spraying my yard with this. He thought he was doing me a favor and didn't know I have a tortoise. So how long do I have to wait to let my little guy feed and is it even safe to put him down in my yard? image.png

The product is known to be harmful to fish if it runs into waterways so must be pretty potent.
It's own marketing says 8 weeks effectiveness, but they want you to respray so the effect is probably considerably longer and it may even get taken up by the plants.
A year would be a safe bet, six months minimum, for me.

  1. I don't think it's a poison either it's supposed to keep them off not kill them but I would be a little worried about whether it would irritate their skin or not. Could you call the company and see what they suggest about introducing tortoises back into the yard? it would most likely be a very unique question :)

I don't know about that product, but our Mosquito Abatement District periodically flies over our area spraying something to kill mosquitos, and there are plenty of grazing animals, cows, sheep, horses, around here that don't seem to be affected by eating the sprayed grass. But, to be sure, I'd email or call the company and ask. Also, you might think about calling the poison control center and ask them.

I don't want to seem too alarmist, but best to play safe.:)

I'll use this again. If you're in the woods and don't know if it's poison ivy or not do you test it to make sure or do you walk away? I wouldn't risk it.
